  • Black Tortoise is the only member of the Four Constellations to lack critical aspect from the description in the actual mythology; Black Tortoise, as a god, associates with a Snake. Occasionally, Black Tortoise has a head of a dragon, or associates with a dragon instead of a serpent.
  • In Chinese mythology, Black Tortoise is technically the most powerful, most ancient, most spiritual, and most worshipped of the Four Constellations because of what the deity symbolize including within Wu Xing, and was because later related to a god Xuanwu in Taoism, and the deity is the only member of the constellations being regarded as a war god (as Xuanwu). In Buddhism, a bodhisattva Myōken is in the place of Xuanwu.
  • In Fujian province, Black Tiger was sometimes in the place of Black Tortoise.
