Fu-xi (pronounced "foo-SHEE"), regarded by snakes as Lord Fu-xi, is a minor character from the Nickelodeon television series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. He is a cobra descended from the Dragon Gods who fought nobly to defend China from evildoers. He then turned renegade when he was betrayed by others (the "two-leggers") who feared his power and slew his snake family. He serves as the main antagonist in the episode "Serpent's Tooth".
Biography[]
Background[]
According to Viper, Fu-xi was once a noble hero who fought to defend the innocent, using venom distilled from the fire of his Dragon God ancestors. Sadly, this ability and his status as a snake aroused suspicion and fear in others, who turned against him and his fellow snakes. Fu-xi fought to defend his brethren, but eventually became determined to repay the "two-leggers" in kind for their savage treatment.[1]
In Legends of Awesomeness[]
Fu-xi found a means of enacting his revenge when workers from the Valley of Peace constructed an aqueduct, which would supply the villagers with water. Fu-xi attacked some of the workers, injecting them with his fear-inducing venom and causing a panic among the villagers that made them become hostile towards all snakes. Viper, who was affected by this, defended Fu-xi to Shifu, explaining the once noble snake's history but eventually agreeing to seek him out in company with Po. After the two split up, Viper was attacked by several hostile villagers, only for Fu-xi to come to her rescue.
Fu-xi recognized Viper as one of the Jade Palace masters, but Viper expressed her admiration of Fu-xi and desire to help him. Unfortunately, Po attacked the cobra in the belief that Fu-xi meant to harm Viper, only for Viper to help Fu-xi escape, claiming that she sympathized with Fu-xi's feelings of rejection by the "two-leggers". Fu-xi advised her to stop being "nice", something he felt that snakes couldn't be if they were to survive in a world where they were feared for being different. He then shared with her his plans to mix mutoon root with his venom, which would make its effects permanent, and contaminate the waters of the aqueduct.
Po appeared again and attempted to stop Fu-xi, but Viper struck him, seemingly using her own venom to knock him unconscious. Fu-xi brought the bound panda to the aqueduct, intending to carry out his plans, only for Viper to free Po and revealed that she only used a paralyzing kung fu move on him. Fu-xi is dismayed by Viper's loyalty to the "two-leggers", seeing it as a betrayal of serpents and himself in particular, and in a rage attempts to carry out his plan anyway. The three became engaged in a battle atop a log sliding through the aqueduct, with the enhanced venom falling into the water as a result. However, Viper was able to break the aqueduct and prevent the water from reaching the village, while Fu-xi was sent flying to crash against a rock, leaving him dazed and defeated.[1]
Personality[]
Once, Fu-xi was a brave and noble warrior, regarded by many snakes as a hero and treated like a lord. Fu-xi defended others with his incredible skills and fear-inducing venom. But when others regarded him and his kind with paranoia and hate, Fu-xi changed for the worst, taking on a racist hatred towards "two-leggers" in retaliation for their violence and persecution.
He came to view himself as a defender of serpents, considering the ones that went along with him as his brethren, but having expectations of his kind, saying they should be strike fear into "two-leggers", and to be prepared to strike at them by any means necessary.
Fighting style[]
Fu-xi fights with a very similar style to Master Viper, with lightning fast moves, but he also incorporates biting to deliver his fear-inducing venom into his opponents/victims. When his venom is mixed with mutoon root, its effects become permanent.

Viper[]
Fu-xi saved Viper from some paranoid villagers who attacked her simply for being a snake, and revealed he'd heard of her, the "Great Master Viper of the Jade Palace", addressing her as "little sister", for in her he saw a potential ally/apprentice.
He subtly demeaned her a few times for fighting for "two-leggers", trying to convince her she should fight against them and side with him. However, trusting Viper just for being a fellow snake proved to be his downfall.
Po[]
Fu-xi regarded Po as just another "two-legger" to get rid of, and used his unfavorable comments about snakes in efforts to sway Viper to his side, and he violently tried many times to kill him.
Trivia[]
- Fu-xi was most likely based off of the deity of the same name from Chinese mythology, who was the first member of the Three Sovereigns, a group of god kings who ruled over China five thousand years ago. He is typically described to be snake-like in appearance, with a human head and a reptilian body.
