It was here in the Hall of Warriors that Tai Lung was presented before Oogway by Shifu twenty years before, in order to determine if he was worthy of becoming the Dragon Warrior. Unfortunately, Oogway saw darkness in Tai Lung's heart, and ultimately refused him the title, as well as the Dragon Scroll, which was being kept in the Hall of Warriors itself. Outraged by this denial, Tai Lung laid waste to the Valley of Peace before returning to the palace and crashing through the doors of the Hall of Warriors, with the intent to claim the scroll for himself. Tai Lung brutally knocked Shifu aside and leapt for the scroll, but was stopped in his tracks by Oogway and defeated. After this incident, Tai Lung was sent to Chorh-Gom Prison for his crimes.

Twenty years later, in Kung Fu Panda's present time, Tai Lung came back to take the Dragon Scroll for his own once again. Sadly, at nearly the same time, Oogway passes away in a storm of flower petals. Shifu tells the Furious Five to stay put, as he finally belived Po was the Dragon Warrior. The Furious Five, however, ignored Shifu's order to put an end to Tai Lung. Although they fought a long and valiant battle, all were paralyzed except for Crane, whom Tai Lung left un-paralyzed to take his message back to Shifu.

Po, after seeing his idols defeated, completely doubted himself, saying, "They're five masters, I'm just one me." Shifu, however, said he would win, saying he would give Po the Dragon Scroll. After seeing that the Scroll didn't say anything, Shifu, losing this last hope, tells all six warriors to flee the valley and evacuate the villagers. Po gets to his father, upset that his life was back to making noodles, Mr. Ping told Po the secret ingredient to his secret ingredient soup, nothing. He didn't need to add anything, people just had to belive it was special. Po then recognizes in a flash the meaning of the Dragon Scroll, that he just had to belive.

During this revelation, Tai Lung had arrived at the Jade Palace and beaten Shifu to the point where the Master could barely get up. Tai Lung had tried to choke Shifu to death with Oogway's staff, but the staff broke, with a blinding light coming from it at its destruction. At this point, Po arrived and defeated Tai Lung with his newfound knowledge.
