Kai's conquest is the name of the conflict in Kung Fu Panda 3 when Kai returned from the Spirit Realm and sought to steal the chi of all the kung fu masters across China, as well as the descendants of the Panda Village.
Background[]
Battle between Oogway and Kai[]
Oogway and Kai were once brother-in-arms leading a great army together. One day, they were ambushed by an enemy army and Oogway was badly injured. Kai then carried his friend for days searching for help, until they came to a secret village of pandas high in the mountains. The pandas used the power of chi to heal Oogway. The two warlords were fascinated by the power and began learning how to use the technique from the pandas.
However, Kai wanted the power all to himself. He quickly developed the technique to take chi from others rather than give it, and began stealing the chi of the pandas to increase his own power.[1]
Seeing the danger his friend's obsession would cause, Oogway broke off his relationship with Kai and confronted him before he could continue his taking of chi. Furious at Oogway's intervention, Kai attacked his former friend and the two engaged in combat, Oogway armed with a staff and Kai armed with a double-bladed spear, with both of them using all of their grand fighting skills.
The battle was long, fierce, and "earth-shaking", but in the end, Oogway prevailed, breaking Kai's spear and banishing him body and soul to the Spirit Realm for all eternity.[1]
Oogway and Kai rematch[]
Oogway was meditating under a peach tree, trying to achieve inner peace but was constantly irritated by little things like falling leaves. Once he found the solace he needed, he was interrupted by a jade double-chained blade flying towards him.
Annoyed, he caught it with ease and throw it towards its source, successfully deflecting the other end of the blade which was heading towards him. Upon being attacked, he instantly recognized his attacker as Kai. The latter, perched on a floating island, challenged him to a rematch, to which Oogway agreed mockingly.
Enraged, Kai charged forward and leapt off the island, slashing through any obstacle standing between them. He launched both blades at Oogway but the tortoise evades them quickly by jumping. This results in a huge collision and the floating island Oogway was on starts to collapse.
Mid-air, Ooway uses chi against Kai with his staff and remarks that he had grown stronger. Kai is only barely affected by the blast and reveals that he had taken the chi of every deceased kung fu master in the Spirit Realm, which distresses Ooogway, who frustratingly expresses on how Kai never seems to be able to change. Kai launches himself towards Oogway with two large boulders in tow while the latter conjures his chi into a ying and yang symbol and directs it towards Kai. Oogway is thrown off and captured by Kai's chained blade.
As Kai slowly harnesses Oogway's chi, he remarks that gaining his chi will enable him to return to the mortal realm and Oogway could not stop him. The old master slowly and peacefully says that it was never his destiny to stop him, as he had set another on that path. He then closes his eyes and accepts his fate.
