The series continues the adventures of Po, who now has the title of Dragon Master. Due to his heroism all throughout China, he was greatly loved and revered by everyone including the Emperor himself. Unfortunately, things soon changed after encountering a duo of evil weasels named Klaus & Veruca, which resulted in the destruction of a local village and the theft of an elemental-powered Gauntlet. As a result, Po's popularity and reputation got destroyed causing him to be shunned and hated by the same people who loved him. However, after being given a chance to seek redemption by Wandering Blade, a medieval knight from England, Po embarks on a new journey to restore his reputation and to stop the two weasels, who seek to retrieve 3 other elemental weapons in their goal of taking over the world. Along the journey, other threats emerge; the Emperor sends his guards to apprehend Po while a Mysterious Figure is pursuing Wandering Blade for his own reasons.

As Klaus and Veruca escaped, Po, Wandering Blade, this time with the thief Rukhmini and Mr. Ping, set out on a journey across the world to find the remaining Tianshang Weapons before they fall to the wrong hands. However, newer problems and threats would begin to rise along the way.

Production[]

When we came onto the scene, Po was sort of at the height of his fame, so I had to knock him down and find a reason for him to lose his stature. ... I wanted to put him in a hole and start this new series where he’s kind of lost everything, because his innocence and his need to get better at something are so much fun and so charming.
—Co-exec. producer Peter Hastings[6]

First word about the series was discovered back in November 2020 when a trademark for the series title was filed.[7] It was much later officially announced by DreamWorks Animation and Netflix during National Panda Day in March 2022[5] that production of a new CGI-animated Kung Fu Panda series was in the works, which would be executive-produced by Peter Hastings and Shaunt Nigoghossian and story-edited by Chris Amuck and Ben Mekler, most of whom have been involved in past Kung Fu Panda or DreamWorks series.[8][1] At the same time Jack Black announced on TikTok his reprisal of Po in the series.[9]

Some visual 3D assets from The Paws of Destiny were recycled for the series. However, some episodes have unique 2D animation styles themed around the context of the scene. For example, one is rendered as comic graphic art when the scene talks about an unpublished comic book, and another renders a British lithograph when the scene talks about the past of some of the British characters.[6]

Music[]

A score soundtrack from Kevin Lax and Robert Lydecker was produced and released on July 15 by Universal Pictures subsidiary Back Lot Music.[10]
