PLEASE look through the FAQs on my profile page. You'll be doing me a HUGE favor by saving me the time in answering the same questions over and over again.
A bit silly to list this, but sadly, I must: Do not ask me about things that I couldn't possibly know. Again, from my FAQ: I do not work for DreamWorks, nor am I an expert in all topics related to movies, or television, or animation, etc. So please refrain from asking me things like when something will be released, or why something is taking so long to release. I'll typically answer these with, "I don't know, sorry," because I really don't know what else to say.
Please do your research before asking me. I get a lot of questions that require me to do something that you could easily do yourself - e.g. asking me for the translation and meaning of a piece of foreign text, or asking me for updates on a particular piece of media, etc. Please be polite and do the research yourself first before asking me about it.
Please do not ask me to look at/visit/read/view/etc. something of yours. I'm quite a busy person and unfortunately do not have the time to look at everyone's stuff.

Not sure if fandom staff responded or not, I did ask a gamepedia staff member to reach out. Assuming database backup dumps are created daily and reviewing recentchanges, restoring the wiki database back to Feb 2 would erase all the damage and recover content (4 pages of lost history) with the current loss of 3 message wall threads + recent edit to Kung Fu Panda. This would seem ideal.
Yeah I saw that, thanks for doing that. Although double-check Shifu, seems like that one still hasn't been restored. I think Zara's trying to rebuild it from Wayback, but if you have the whole page somewhere, that would save a lot of time.
Ugh this whole thing is a mess, lol. Glad to see you and Zara and others are helping out with it.
No, I haven't gotten a reply from Fandom yet. I sent the bug report 2 days ago.
I reached out to MannedTooth (Gamepedia side staff), should get an update tomorrow. If fandom does have a database backup from Feb 2, would you be open to using that to restore the wiki back to original condition despite losing the few messagewall threads?
Do you have a Discord account, I am open to adding each other? Spooky#6379
Perhaps, you may want to accept Spongebob456's offer as a wiki manager - its mainly to correlate faster responses between wiki admins and fandom staff.
These last few days were just filled with a lot of coincidences... I happened to be following 1 random page with email updates, and it was a page that was vandalized, and I happened to be awake at 4am when it occurred, so I caught it pretty quickly. Then you show up with BACKUPS because you happened to "stop by"?
Well, I am so happy you did have them! Thanks for restoring Shifu as well. Nerf if you are up to it you can add me as well (your friend requests are closed): Zaralyyth#2401 (Spotted too if she wants)
It's not entirely coincidence on Nerf's part. I remember a while back he requested I update the wiki's database dump, so that's probably where his personal backups come from.
I don't mind a Feb. 2 restoration, so if that's a possibility, sure.
I'm honestly not sure what a "wiki manager" is, lol. I just thought what Spongebob was talking about when he first reached out to me was just to reach out to him directly if I needed some sort of quick response from Fandom. But since Lady Lostris and you, Nerf, have already reached out to others concerning this matter, and I sent in that bug report, I figured we're good for the most part.
Hey Spottedstar! I just wanted to let you know staff are looking into this issue. Sorry this happened!
For future references, as a Wiki Manager, you can contact me about this and I can forward any concerns to full time Fandom staff, rather than you having to use Special:Contact queues. Help:Wiki Manager provides more details on our role. Apologies I didn't make that clear before!
I'll get back to you if I have any updates on the vandalism situation and please feel free to contact me about anything relating to this wiki or wiki-editing on Fandom. :) --Spongebob456talk 16:43, February 8, 2020 (UTC)
poking...Shouldn't be too difficult to locate the sql dump of wiki database and check for integrity on a temporary throwaway then import the sql dump into this wiki. Importing hundreds of revisions is more difficult and less appealing at this stage.
@spongebob456 any update or are we out of luck considering many more edits in past 2 weeks+ have been made...? importing xml dump of the 4 impacted pages to regain full historial revisions at this stage would work
I got in touch with VSTF on the community Discord to have the user ShufuHater420/ShifuHater69 banned and undid all their edits while I was waiting for a response -- everything should be fine. I wasn't aware I didn't have rollback permissions so I just copied and pasted the latest version of each page before the afformentioned user's edits took place.
The remaining vandalism was corrected by Lady Lostris (VSTF)
Yeah it's bugged or something. I tried to restore it and it's telling me it's already been restored and telling me to report a bug. The entire page history and comments were removed. It's also not the only page like that - seems like Secrets of the Masters and Secrets of the Furious Five are doing the same thing.
I'll just send in a bug report and hope Fandom staff can restore it, because I certainly can't. Wayback doesn't seem to help either because it has some weird HTML formatting that doesn't reflect the page at all.
Alright, it seems I've figured out what the problem is, but that doesn't really help us further. We have a tool that easily allows us to revert page moves and delete the redirect in one go, but it apparently has the side effect to always do that, even if the page had already been reverted to its original title. By renaming the page again to an existing title, I created a loop-redirect. I've noticed this before but didn't think anything of it, as the problem was fixed upon deleting a redirect and restoring the content. However, if you apparently delete and restore the redirect that only holds the history of the page move, you apparently overwrite the redirect holding all the information, and it (seemingly?) becomes lost.
So I sincerely apologise for having caused this issue. You should be fine recreating the page with the content retrieved from the wayback machine, but that is obviously a hassle and not the normal was to you. I will flag this issue with the more code-savvy people of our team to 1. adjust our tool so this will not happen again and 2. see if they can perhaps help restore the content more easily (if it hasn't been restored already by the time they get to it).
If the pages can be restored please feel free to do so otherwise I've created one for Shifu as it's pretty easy to just stick the info back in by looking at the formatting of other pages and then copy/paste from the wayback machine. However, I seem to have forgotten how references work. :?
I've been talking it over with a VolDev member of the VSTF and restoring the pages doesn't seem so easily don't due to the overwrite. So it's best to copy:paste the info from the wayback machine, but that sadly doesn't give you the best working option or the edit history. I'm very sorry for this inconvenience. The only silver lining is that we're now at least aware that this can occur, but that doesn't help this community, of course.
@SpottedStar and @Lady Lostris, perhaps this is where requesting staff to restore perhaps a database backup might come in handy. Additionally I do have a copy of latest edits since a few days ago on a personal backup in case you want to copy from there :)
update: I went ahead and restored "Kung Fu Panda", "Secrets of the Furious Five", "Shifu"
Edit: Nice clutch save with all the backups. How did you make the backups anyways? I'm very curious. I tried everything from dumping my browser's cache to making a mock offline website using the wayback machine's content so it looked proper for copy & paste, I tried browsing offline cashes of some of the pages..
Well, today it's my last day of work of Kung Fu Panda wiki i'm just want to say thank you for your help and also keep your eyes for kung fu panda: the paws of destiny characters what for need and thank you and good bye and have a nice day.
Don't know why the permanent decision, but I suppose you have your reasons for officially declaring your leave. Thanks much for sticking around as long as you did. This wiki isn't going anywhere, so you're more than welcome to return anytime.
... I was joking. I thought that was obvious when I said "lol" in my message. It was playful sarcasm on your comment saying that I would somehow be "mad" at whatever thought/opinion you had. I thought that was funny, so I made a joke about it. I also honestly thought you were going along with it in your reply, but then you made that follow-up thread and I wasn't too sure. And now with this, apparently you weren't joking around.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll be a little more careful about what I say to you in the future.
