Mu Tong root is a liquid substance seen in the episode "Serpent's Tooth" from Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. It is presumably grown in the Mu Tong Fields.

Description[]

It's a clear liquid that when mixed with the fear inducing toxin of Fu-Xi's venom, can make his venom's effects permanently compared to his venom regularly wearing off after a while.

History[]

In Legends of Awesomeness[]

In "Serpent's Tooth" Fu-Xi explained to Viper that he harvested the liquid for his fear Toxin to become permanent as part of his plan to drive every 'two leggers' in the Valley of Peace mad as his fear Toxin was only temporary until he learned that with Mu Tong Root it can become permanently. It planned to mix them both together and place it into the water supply of the Valley of Peace to take the power he rightfully deserved. However, thanks to the efforts of Po and Viper, his plan failed and the Mu Tong Root was assumed to be disposed of properly.

Trivia[]

  • "Mu Tong" (traditional and simplified Chinese: 木通?; pinyin: mù tōng) is the Chinese name of the akebia quinata plant—a shrub native to China, Japan, and Korea. The name translates into English as "perforated wood".
  • In Chinese medicine, the principle use of Mu Tong root was traditionally for promoting lactation in nursing mothers. It is now modernly used as a therapeutic herb to promote not only lactation, but also urination and to help reduce inflammation.[1][2]
