Fools, you are like worms, challenging a large dog, or perhaps a mid-sized cow! You do not grasp that you are helpless before Pai Mei, high priest of abusive lotus! Hehehehehehohoho!
—Pai Mei, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness

Pai Mei is a minor character in the Nickelodeon television series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. He is a former kung fu master who was exiled for attempting to destroy the Emperor. His only appearance was as the main antagonist in the episode "Five is Enough", where he traveled to the Valley of Peace to seek out and destroy Shifu.

Biography[]

Earlier years[]

Pai Mei being exiled by Shifu

Pai Mei was once, as he describes, "China's most deadliest, most abusive kung fu master", until he attempted to assassinate the emperor, only to be defeated by Shifu, who then chained him to a boat and set him adrift at sea in exile. During his exile, he learned the Five-Fingered Blast Punch, which he planned to use to get his revenge on Shifu.[1]

In Legends of Awesomeness[]

Years later, Pai Mei returned to China and easily defeated the border patrol in his way. After demanding the location of Shifu from them, he left the guards to explode from his special technique.

Pai Mei ambushed Master Chao as he returned to his tent, where he described how he hated Chao for his appearance before hitting him with his technique. He then secretly observed Shifu and his students as they competed against the masters of the Onyx Temple during the Tournament of the Sun Pennant. After the Onyx masters managed to take the flag due to Shifu's interference, Pai Mei attacked them and left them unconscious on the ground. When Shifu entered the scene, Pai Mei revealed himself and prepared to fight his nemesis to the death.

After recounting how Shifu defeated him the first time, Pai Mei showed off his newest technique on a rock. He attempted to use on Shifu next until Po and the Furious Five came to save their master. Though they fought fiercely, Pai Mei managed to match and eventually defeat them all by causing a nearby statue to explode. He then prepared to kill Po, but Shifu, pretending to be crippled by his old age, offers to let himself be destroyed in exchange for sparing his students. Pai Mei agrees to this and tries to hit Shifu with his technique, but Shifu keeps dodging him while analyzing the technique. Soon, Pai Mei was able to uncover Shifu's deception, but was too late as Shifu defeated him by using the same technique to send him falling down a cliff.

Pai Mei's fate is unknown after this. Either he died from the fall, was imprisoned in Chorh-Gom or was exiled again.

He also claims that Shifu's skills in kung fu were "overrated" and that his singing voice was awful. Lastly, Pai Mei underestimated Shifu because of his old age, which Shifu used to his advantage.

Chao[]

Pai Mei never liked Chao for his unsettling appearance and attacked him before moving on to Shifu.

Po[]

Pai Mei looked down on Po for being a fat panda and attempted to kill him twice.

Pai Mei's grandfather[]

Trivia[]

  • "Pai Mei" translates into English as literally "white eyebrow" (traditional and simplified Chinese: 白眉?; pinyin: báiméi).
  • Pai Mei was most likely based off of the historical figure Bak Mei from southern Chinese folklore, who is said to have been one of the five legendary elders that survived the destruction of the Shaolin Monastery and helped to spread Shaolin martial arts through China. He has been fictionalized in many different films, but is better known today by his Western name "Pai Mei", obtained from the Kill Bill character. Pai Mei from Legends of Awesomeness shares similarities with this particular character in name, appearance, and fighting technique.
