The peach tree sapling is a young peach tree that was planted by Shifu and Oogway during their last conversation under the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom. It first appeared at the end of Kung Fu Panda while Po and Shifu were eating dumplings together on Peach Tree Hill, and then later appeared in the Nickelodeon series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.

The sapling at the end of Kung Fu Panda

While trying to explain to Oogway that there are only particular things one can control, Shifu provided an example of a peach seed from the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, saying that one can plant a seed where they want to.

Later, the seed grew into a sapling, which was seen at the end of the film when Po and Shifu were seen eating dumplings together.

PosTree

The sapling restoring Po's Hero's Chi in "Enter the Dragon"

The peach tree sapling is seen in the series, along with the old tree, but it does not make a significant appearance until the episode "Enter the Dragon". In the episode, Ke-Pa drained Po's Hero's Chi in order to free the other demons. Shifu and Tigress brought Po to Peach Tree Hill, hoping that the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom would restore his chi. Unfortunately, the burnt and dying tree turned to ash and blew away just as Po touched it. Fortunately, the peach tree sapling used the powers of the heavens and the earth to restore Po's Hero's Chi, just like the old tree had done one thousand years prior with Oogway.

Trivia[]

  • The sapling is a symbolic representation of Po. In Chinese culture, the peach represents spring: the season of renewal and rebirth. From this, Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson explains that when Oogway decides to depart, he "first plants a new seed that represents a new hope. Po is the new peach tree, waiting to be renewed and reborn as a universal hero."[2]
