Episode Plot

Synopsis

"Two Kung Fu Masters visit the Jade Palace to check up on Shifu, but when Po disobeys an order it causes the downfall of Shifu and the Furious Five."[2]

Summary

The story starts at Mr. Ping 's noodle shop, where Po is unusually depressed by something, and consequently is messing up everywhere he turns. We find out that by some string of events, Po is no longer the Dragon Warrior and the Furious Five has somehow been fired and now work as entertainers for children's birthday parties. Furthermore, Shifu has disappeared somewhere and no one has seen him for days. Po goes up to his room to forlornly sit and reflect on all that he once had and how he messed it all up...

We then flash back to two weeks prior, when Shifu and his students are rehearsing for some sort of special, traditional presentation - more specifically, "The Presentation of the Seven Forms". One of these is "The Pyramid of Fortitude", which requires the Five to create a balanced, manmade pyramid, on top of which Po is to balance. In the practice of this form, however, Po causes the pyramid to topple with his own addition of a one-handed spin. Shifu is displeased by this, insisting that the form must only be carried out in the traditional manner. It would appear that the presentation is to be performed for Master Chao and Master Junjie of the Sacred Onyx Council , who once trained alongside Shifu under Oogway . Shifu stresses that the quality of the presentation will be a judgement of his abilities as a teacher, and that he and his students must make a good impression towards the visiting masters (he stresses this especially to Po).

This is the exact moment that Chao and Junjie arrive, and Po's fanboy mannerisms leave them less than impressed. Chao then states to Shifu that it is time to partake in the "Masters' Ceremonial Sparring ". Po is eager to watch this, yet Shifu insists that he is not yet ready to witness it. Disappointed, Po goes out to sulk on the stairs. Junjie comes out to him and assures him that he should be allowed to watch the spar, as he is the Dragon Warrior and Shifu has always been a staid grump. He even offers to leave the door open a bit for Po to peek in and watch.

That night, Po sneaks to the front doors of the Jade Palace to witness the masters' sparring. After a silent, meditative moment, Shifu, Junjie, and Chao all launch into the air on streams of colored light and spar rhythmically in the air and on the ground. At one point, however, Junjie breaks the rhythm of the controlled sparring to deal Shifu a brutal kick to the chest. Chao reprimands the fox on this. Shifu claims he's all right - just a little slow - and retaliates by cooly tackling Junjie to the ground. With a brief, snide remark from the red panda, Junjie goes on the attack. "This is why Oogway didn't choose you to run the Jade Palace," Shifu remarks. Junjie then startles his fellow masters by performing the Golden Lotus Clap - a move that, if viewed with open eyes, blinds any who witness it. Shifu and Chao are quick enough to look away. Po, however, is blown back from his perch outside the door and instantly finds himself completely blind. Unaware of his presence, Chao tells Shifu it is time for his students to perform The Presentation of the Seven Forms. The Five quickly report to the Hall, and Tigress - completely unaware of Po's blindness - drags the stumbling panda in with them. Under the scrutiny of the masters, the Pyramid of Fortitude is performed flawlessly - until Po, unable to see a thing, runs blindly in to try and perform his part and ultimately wrecks the entire presentation. The masters quickly figure out that Po was spying on their sparring match and, once Po is healed of his blindness, Chao berates Shifu on the inability to maintain discipline among his students. Despite Po's arguments, Chao reluctantly announces that Shifu is no longer fit to be master of the Jade Palace and demotes him on the spot. Po tries again to defend his master, which prompts Shifu to scold him for questioning Chao's decisions and despairingly admit that his judgement of him is warranted. He abruptly leaves the Palace, ordering his students to do as Chao and Junjie command them and to not disgrace him anymore than he has disgraced himself. Before Master Chao departs, he announces Junjie as the new Master of the Jade Palace and that Po and the Five are bound by honor to obey him. He tells Junjie that he will return to check on his progress, and that he hopes he can restore the palace to its former glory - which the fox claims that he will do even better. As soon as Chao leaves, Junjie turns to Po and the Five and gives only one command: "Get out!"

Five snow leopards quickly appear at Junjie's side, and the snide fox remarks that Po and the Five have been replaced - and therefore no longer needed. Po strongly rejects to this, but the Five are intent to keep their promise to Shifu to remain obedient to Junjie and leave quietly without resistance. Before they walk away from Po, Tigress rebukes him for disobeying Shifu's orders and essentially ruining everything they had worked towards as warriors. We then return back to the present, where Po is ruminating on just how much he messed things up. In hopes of cheering him up, Mr. Ping sends his son to take an order delivery to the Jade Palace. Po complies, but overhears voices as he nears the palace with his delivery. Peeking in through the door, he notices that Junjie has been busy at work at redesigning, ordering a new statue, tea set, topiaries, and even a giant tapestry for the main hall - all presenting an image of him defeating Shifu. There's now only one more task on Junjie's to-do list - destroy Shifu! Po overhears that his master is being held prisoner in the catacombs beneath the palace, and barely avoids being caught by the snow leopards when Junjie hears him at the door. Panicked, Po hurries back down to the Valley and explains the situation to his dad. He tries to go to the Furious Five for help, but quite literally gets the door slammed in his face by each and every one of them. Despite his father's worries, Po decides he has to save Shifu himself, and heads back for the palace. And while he does manage to sneak into the main hall, it isn't long before Junjie finds him out. Po is set to fight Junjie himself to bust Shifu out, yet both are surprised when Chao shows up in compliance with his word to come back and check on Junjie's progress. Since he is now aware of the fox's mal-intent, Junjie manages to bring Chao down with a barrage of arrows to the back. Po hurries to help the lizard master, which distracts him long enough for Junjie to knock the panda out with a kick to the head. Meanwhile, Mr. Ping has gone to find the Furious Five - who are still working their birthday party gigs. He explains what has happened to Po and Shifu, and the Five are at first hesitant to believe the story (or that they even have reason to help Po after what he did). With Ping's persuasion, however, they also recall that Po may be a lot of things...but he's not a liar. Back at the palace, Po wakes up in the catacombs and finds himself chained up right along with Chao and Shifu. Po apologizes to his master, and Shifu apologizes back - admitting he knew Junjie was up to no good. He tells Po that he had returned to face Junjie after seemingly leaving in the first place, but was cheated and defeated when Junjie released his snow leopard students on him. He also admitted to Po that if he hadn't been so hard-put to follow tradition, then perhaps they wouldn't find themselves in such a situation. After this, Po quickly comes up with an idea and performs the Golden Lotus Clap. This allows him to break his own chains...but also blinds him once again, as he forgot to close his eyes in the process.

Up in the main hall, Junjie and his students feel the pulse from the clap but are stopped from storming the catacombs when the Furious Five show up to fight. Junjie orders his leopard students to take them while he escapes to the catacombs. Finding Po blind and freed from his bonds, Junjie attacks the panda and is able to knock the stumbling panda around a while before Po gets an idea and douses the torches in the room, plunging both him and Junjie in complete darkness. Though still blinded, Po is able to smell the garlic from the very chow mein he had delivered to the palace the previous day, and uses this to locate and gain the upper hand over Junjie. Up above, the Five manage to dispatch the leopards and race for the catacombs to help Po - finding him and a chained Junjie on the scene when they arrive. Later, out in front of the Jade Palace, Chao restores Shifu as Master of the Jade Palace, and expresses his gratefulness to Po for teaching them that "sometimes doing the right thing is more important than the old rules". He informs Junjie that he is taking him and his snow leopard students to Chor Ghom prison, and unceremoniously kicks them down the stairs before saluting Shifu and leaving. Po is rather proud that he actually managed to teach Shifu something and earn respect from him for a change, and Shifu announces that indeed, he now respects him. So much, in fact, that he won't insult him by fixing his eyesight for him. Alarmed at first, Po plays it cool and claims he can fix it himself - proving this by promptly and gloriously tripping down the stairs himself.
